New Year's means champagne, resolutions, out with the old, in with the new.....and for Spa Professionals, it means SpaFinder's Spa Trends!
SpaFinder released a Sneak Peek of their Top 10 Spa Trends for 2013. Check them out below:
The Mindfulness Massage - A creative blend of mindfulness and bodywork, the Mindfulness Massage incorporates breathing techniques and so-called "body scans" to bring attention to every part of the body, bringing the massage to the next level. Leave the mind-clutter behind!
Earthing - A movement promoting direct contact with the Earth's surface to stabilize the body's rhythms and reduce inflammation. Spas are expected to incorporate more "Earthing" into treatments and further reach into the "nature grounding" movement.
Spa-Genomics...Telomeres and Beyond - Genomic testing is showing the potential to pinpoint diseases that can be slowed by lifestyle changes. In some studies, telomeres have shown to be able to be repaired by stress-reduction, exercise, sleep, healthier lifestyles, and meditation. All of this is right up the Spa Industry's alley - and the move to incorporate Spas into your health routine will continue!
Authentic Ayurveda and Other Ancient Revivals - More "aggressively-authentic" wellness experiences, incorporating ancient wellness traditions will be seen throughout the spa industry, with a strong focus on Ayurveda, Turkish and Roman baths, and even Russian banyas.
Color Self-Expression - Self-expression in 2013 is going to play out in COLOR - allowing self-transformation to be painted on, both easily and relatively inexpensively. Expect hair color to be IN-YOUR-FACE, colorful accessorial add-ons, such as neon lashes, and lots of nail and body art.
Inclusive Wellness - The industry is expected to continue its shift from pampering to delivering wellness to people of all ages and abilities. More and more people are looking to spas to help with the healing process, as well as increase bodily function, in both pain-relieving capacities, as well as mobility-enhancing therapies.
Label Conscious Fitness - While branded fitness has been around for decades, the fitness world is expanding rapidly, and, according to SpaFinder, "an explosion of "fitness labels" distinguishes products and programs – and serves as a shortcut for instant recognition in an oversaturated market full of similar choices...Millions chase the "insider elite," giving the fitness world a distinct fashion world vibe where consumers shop for the latest fitness craze just as they search for the newest designer purse."
Men: From Barbers to "Brotox" - 2013 will see more and more having "work" done, from injectables to body enhancements, as new technology allows for little to no downtime and almost no telltale scarring. Men are looking for more subtle, less obvious results, and further enhancements in this sector are allowing medspas and plastic surgeons to provide just that. Not a medspa or plastic surgeon? That's ok - expect to expand your male menu, including waxing, threading, and other male cosmetic treatments as well.
Where the Jobs Are - The health/beauty/wellness sector is growing rapidly, and cannot find enough qualified, skilled employees to keep up. As eyes remain on health and wellness, and the public views spas as a healthy alternative to maintain a wellness-focused lifestyle, this service sector will continue to boom with new jobs and positions to fill.
