Fish: They Make for Better Manicures

Fish: They Make for Better Manicures

Despite the recent advances in nail technology, i.e. Gelish and Shellac, there are still many holdouts, myself included, who swear by old-fashioned, regular nail polish. I think any person out there who has received a manicure with standard nail polish can agree - Waiting for your nails to dry under the nail dryer is the worst. It is boring, time consuming and takes way too long. I always leave before my nails are dry enough, and end up having lovely, painted nails for a whole of 10 minutes before they are destroyed. For many people, this then means touch-ups, using extra product and employee time and effort. How can this be avoided? It is a simple concept that is not so easy to execute: Get your clients to keep their hands in the nail dryer longer.

2 nail salons I have recently been to employed something unique which made me want to stay seated and let me nails dry: Fish bowls. It is very soothing to watch a pretty little fish or 2 swim around in a jar filled with pretty marbles or gemstones. It captures the attention and makes for a pleasant experience. One nail salon I had been to used Beta fish in flower vases and attractive colored dishes. One of the easiest fish to take care of, Betas, flourish in a very small environment and must be kept alone. They are also very inexpensive and only require food, a clean bowl and pH balanced water. They are simple, cost-effective and lovely to behold by you and your clients alike. AND - did you know... There have been studies that say staring at fish can reduce a person’s blood pressure!? That's so awesome!

Another nail salon I went to had a huge aquarium on top of the nail drying table, filled with all kinds of goldfish. While it was nice to watch them swim around, from a spa-owner perspective, I don't necessarily recommend using goldfish. They are very dirty and require their bowls and aquariums to be cleaned constantly. Plus they are an extremely delicate fish that require a significantly larger bowl than most other types. If you are not interested in Beta's , I recommend purchasing some hearty fresh water tropical fish, such as guppies and tetras.

Lastly, if you are 2 steps ahead of me and already have the fish but need the nail dryers, CLICK HERE to see Pure Spa's extensive offering.
