The Esthetics Council: COVID19 Safety Guidelines for Estheticians

The Esthetics Council, as reported in Skin Inc Magazine, has published service and environmental guidelines for estheticians to follow during the current COVID19 pandemic outbreak.

It is important to recognize that the Esthetics Council notes that while the guidelines and practices outlined are already currently in place, all extra steps and extra care will help comfort clients and provide additional protection from the virus.

Be sure to be loud and clear to your staff, clients, and the entire community about the steps you are taking to keep yourself, your staff, and your clients protected. Once life gets "back to normal," clients are likely to still approach things with caution, so being vocal about all of the steps you are taking to protect everyone will help your clients - and your staff - feel more at ease!

Service Guidelines
This category of guidelines is about keeping yourself safe before, during, and after each of your services. These include:

• If you have any symptoms, stay home and contact your doctor or local health department;
• Avoid touching your face, even with gloves on;
• If you are self-employed, be sure to communicate with your clients about cancellation notice as well as what your disinfection procedures are;
• If you are an employer, waive cancellation and re-booking fees and allow for additional time between services to fully disinfect the area;
• Consider hiring support staff that can assist the esthetician in fully cleaning their area quickly and safely while maintaining retail sales;
• Have multiple sets of tools, supplies and linens available to speed up the treatment room turn around; and
• If you have access to an autoclave, use it for all metal implements/​tools.
