Four Questions To Ask Your Client Before Their Wax

When it comes to waxing, it's not just about applying the wax and getting to work. As professionals, we know that the key to a smooth and safe waxing session starts well before the first strip is pulled. How? By asking the right questions! These four essential questions will help you gather important information from your clients, ensuring that you can tailor your services to meet their unique needs. So, grab your spatula, and let's dive in!

1. "What has your experience with waxing been so far?"

This question is your golden ticket to understanding your client's comfort level with waxing. Maybe they're a seasoned pro who's been waxing for years, or perhaps they're a newbie, nervous about their first session. By gauging their past experiences, you can adjust your approach—whether that's offering extra reassurance or explaining the process in detail. Using quality products like stripless hard wax can also help ease any concerns they might have.

2. "Are you currently taking any medication?"

Medications can have a significant impact on the skin's sensitivity, and waxing is no exception. It's crucial to know if your client is taking anything that could thin their skin or increase sensitivity, such as Retin-A, Accutane, or certain antibiotics. If they are, you'll need to proceed with caution or possibly reschedule the appointment. Suggest using a pre-waxing oil to add an extra layer of protection and make the experience as comfortable as possible.

3. "Do you have any allergies?"

Allergies can turn a relaxing wax into a nightmare if not addressed beforehand. Some waxes contain natural ingredients like beeswax or soothing agents like lavender, which could be allergens for some clients. Ask about any known allergies to ensure you choose the right products. For clients with sensitivities, consider using sugar-based waxes or synthetic resins to minimize the risk of a reaction.

4. "Have you been tanning in the last 24 hours?"

Tanning and waxing are not a great combination! Even if your client doesn't have a visible sunburn, their skin could still be more sensitive after tanning, leading to potential irritation or even skin lifting during the wax. Advise them to avoid tanning beds, sun exposure, and spray tans at least 24 hours before their appointment, and also remind them to stay out of the sun for a day or two after waxing. For extra care, offer them a selection of post-wax soothing products to keep their skin calm and irritation-free.

By asking these four key questions, you can ensure that every waxing session is not only effective but also safe and comfortable for your clients. At Pure Spa Direct, we provide all the tools you need to give your clients the best waxing experience possible. From wax warmers to applicators, we've got you covered!
